This snack was introduced by the Dutch. Because of distribution was getting difficult, they took initiative, are taught local community making this pie, although some ingredients such butter and milk are still imported from there.
At first time, this cake was called rontart which means round cake, but the pronunciation was difficult for them, finally they called this lontar pie.The shape is round, similar to milk pie from Bali, but lontar pie has a larger size and the custard more sweeter.
This cuisine are finally liked by many people and spread through outside.

Lontar Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
Crust :
- 150 gr low protein low
- 20 gr icing sugar
- 27 gr skim milk
- 125 gr butter
- 2 yolk
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp ice water
Custard :
- 5 eggs
- 20 cornstart
- 200 ml Sweetened condensed milk
- 350 ml hot water
- 1 tsp rhum
Tools :
- Teflon with diameter 26 cm plus closed pot lid
- Strainer
- Whisk
Condiment :
- Grate cheese
- cherry
Instruction :
Crust:
- Combine flour, skim milk, icing sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Put butter until mixture, resembles coarse crumbs. Mix with water, until dough comes together. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
- Roll dough out to a circle on a lightly floured surface. Carefully place crust on Teflon 26 cm. Press dough evenly into the bottom and sides and make crust.
- Prick the dough with a fork so that the dough will be perfectly cooked
Custard :
- Take a large bowl, whisk the eggs, cornstart, sugar and vanilla/ rhum. Gradually pour the hot milk mixture onto the sugar mixture, whisking constantly.
- Stirring with a wooden spoon until the custard thickened,
- Use the strainer while put the custard to the crust pie
- Grill with low heat at 30 minutes.
- If it smell good, and pie crust get a right tekstur turn off the stove and resting
- Plating with a grate cheese and nicely cherry as a garnish
- Lontar pie ready to be served.
Its really a good idea, if you cook in your kitchen because they have a simple ingredient and also instruction even if you don’t have many tools. So, you can use teflon or lontar dish as replacement oven.
